Nine Heart Comfort Wrap
Initially, I designed this wrap as one of my meaningful makes, to provide comfort to a friend that had lost her brother suddenly to a heart attack. Since then, I have discovered several other ways to use it.
#1 – A Fashion Wrap
Of course, the most obvious is as a beautiful fashion wrap to add to your wardrobe. The Nine Heart Comfort Wrap would be equally as attractive done in one colour, or perhaps using different colours for the heart rows which would create a striped affect.

#2 – A Comfort Wrap
As a Comfort Wrap it is meant for someone that is grieving the loss of a loved one, especially one that has been taken by weaknesses of the heart like heart failure, heart attacks and strokes.
I have found myself feeling helpless when those in my life are feeling such pain. These are the times when the usual gifts of flowers or cooked meals don’t seem like the right gestures for me so I have turned to my crochet hook to paint my own expression of love and support. The grieving process can be long and I know my comfort wrap can be with them in their darkest moments as a reminder that I am always there to hold them up when they are stumbling on their own.
A message has been woven into this wrap design by using colour, stitches and motif. For instance, most teachings of the world agree that 9 is a powerful number that symbolizes divine completeness or conveys the meaning of finality. For that reason, nine hearts is the design feature of this wrap. Emphasis is given to a heart(s) to represent the person(s) being grieved by making it in another colour, red for romantic love or pink for love and affection. The main colour selected for the wrap is grey, considered a neutral colour, causing no additional emotional effect but rather bringing balance and calmness. Perhaps the most significant feature of the Nine Heart Comfort Wrap is your intention while making it. As you think of the recipient you will be weaving into each stitch all the emotional support you can provide to help them navigate their grieving journey.
#3 – A Remembrance Wrap
The Erica Version of the Nine Heart Comfort Wrap is meant as a remembrance wrap. In this case I have used colours of yarn that represent the birthstone colour (amethyst) for the individual that is being remembered.

MATERIALS
Yardage is given for the #2 version of the Nine Heart Comfort Wrap. If you change the colour combinations adjust the yardage accordingly.
#5 Bulky Weight Yarn
– I used 4 skeins of Lions Brand Homespun in the colour Clouds.
6 oz/170 g • 185 yd/ 169 m per skein
#4 Medium Weight Yarn
– For the contrast colour I used Loops & Thread Impeccable yarn in the colour Soft Rose. This is a #4 medium weight yarn but I wanted the colour. For the small amount used, I crocheted loosely with the 6.5m hook. (Note: if you were making entire rows of contrasting hearts, I would suggest using #5 bulky yarn)
4.05 oz/127.5 g • 20 yds/18.5 m
– 6.5mm crochet hook
– Tapestry needle
If you are making the Nine Heart Comfort Wrap for yourself, I hope you enjoy it and it brings you any comfort you might need. If you are making it for someone else, I hope by way of your craft of crochet you can weave a
meaningful message to comfort them during their time of loss be it death, separation or change of circumstances.
