FREE PATTERN - Quick Textured Ear Warmer

Just as the name implies, the Quick Textured Ear Warmer, makes up quickly, is cute has lost of texture, and will keep you warm.   The real thing I like about this ear warmer is that no gauge swatch is required.  Bonus!  No of us like to make gauge swatches.  Instead of making this to gauge it is made to measurements which saves time, gives a better fit, and allows for some variation in yarn and hook size.  It’s a yarn buster too as it doesn’t require a lot.

If you like to just jump in and get started on your project this is the make for you.  Once you determine the circumference required either by measuring your head or using the chart provided as a guide, you make your first row to that measurement and away you go.  Simple and quick.  You can whip this one up in a couple of hours.

FREE PATTERN - Reusable Swiffer-Like Floor Pad

picture of a swiffer mop with a grey crochet pad

In an attempt to be more eco-friendly around the home, I have designed this reusable “swiffer-like” floor pad.  It reduces the number of purchased pads I was using that would end up in the land fill and take years to breakdown if they ever do.

I used #4 medium weight acrylic yarn from my stash and although acrylic is not eco-friendly, I thought it was a trade off as it can be used over and over again.  I also like acrylic as it doesn’t stain so it takes a beating.

I use it dry to dust mop the floors or wet it to damp mop.  It does stretch when wet so it is important to make it fit as tight as possible to your floor mop.

This graphic shows the dimensions of my swiffer-like floor pad.  Measure your mop and make the pad the width of your map but at least 1 – 1.5″ (1 – 4.5 cm) smaller than the length depending on how tight you crochet.

Materials
•  #4 medium weight yarn
•  5mm crochet hook
•  Tapestry Needle
•  Scissors

Stitches
Single Crochet (sc)
Half Double Crochet (hdc)

Pattern Notes
The number of starting chains will vary depending up the size of your mop and your crochet tension.  Since the pad stretches a lot when wet, it is important that the pad fit very snuggly when dry.

The length for starting chain will be:  Length of mop  plus  5″ (12 cm) for turn back  minus  1 – 1.5″ (1 – 4.5 cm)
The stitches and rows given in the pattern below are those that fit my mop.  You may have to adjust yours to fit your dimensions.

Pattern
Ch 45 (adjust accordingly to your mop and your tension)
ROW 1:           Sc to end of row, ch 1, turn. (45 st)
ROW 2:          Hdc to end or row, ch 1, turn. (45 st)
ROW 4 – 9:   Repeat Rows 1 – 2 (3) more times.
Note:  The number of repeats will vary depending on the width of your mop.  Adjust accordingly.
ROW 10:         Sc to end of row. Fasten off. (45 st)

FINISHING
1.
Fold both ends in  2.5″ (6 cm) (see fold lines on graphic above).
2.  Join yarn in corner, sc along the edge catching the stitches of the folded portion too.
3.  Repeat Step #2 on other edge.  Fasten off.
4.
Weave in all ends.

Happy mopping!

FREE PATTERN - Velvet Pumpkin Pattern

picture of small black velvet pumpkin on right side and 3 spooky black candles on left side with oak leaves and acorns in the foreground.

Whether you are looking for some miniature fall décor for your home or some spooky Halloween decorations, this velvet pumpkin is a quick crochet make that could be the answer.  Add the toilet paper candles and you amp up the spooky factor.

My granddaughter and I made this set for her mother.  Mom has a decorative shelf that she likes to switch up for different seasons and this is what we came up with.  A little walk around the neighbourhood to find the stick, leaves and acorns and the set was finished off perfectly, don’t you think?

Bat Scrubbie Finished Size: 7.5” / 20 cm

Includes picture tutorial for pumpkin too!

Face scrubbies are one of the things I use on a daily basis.  I like how they energize your skin, leaving it looking fresher and brighter.  Since they are reusable, not only are they good for your skin but they are good for the environment too.

Cotton yarn is best for face scrubbies.  Use any other #4 medium weight yarn and they become coasters as part of your home décor during the spooky season.

Christmas Themed Money Card Templates

If there are some on your gift list that you like to give a gift of money or gift card, you will find these free card  templates handy.  They are festive looking,  a great stash buster and quick to make.

How to Make the Card
Print them out on card stock paper.  Cut along the outside line.  Each card has a faint outline to follow to embroider.  One is a tree with a star motif and the other is a snowflake.  Use scraps of yarn in colours of your choice to stitch along the lines.  Once embroidery is finished, fold the bottom up along the fold line to make the money pocket and then fold the card in half width wise. (Optional: glue edge of money pocket on each end.)

60 Minute Boa Scarf

No crocheting, no knitting required. If you can tie a knot you can make this scarf…in 1 hour!
This is such a fun project. I used Loops & Treads Fur which is perfect as each strand of yarn is made with 3 pieces twisted together. When you tie and untwist the pieces they give a very light feathery effect. You can also use the sherpa style of yarn. This style of yarn gives a more rustic feel to the scarf which is nice casual feel as well.
I can think of so many style options for this scarf. It will zhuzh up any outfit. Perfect for the LBD, over a sweater, with a coat or one of my favs around my neck when I am wearing my favourite wrap. For those colder days, it fills in the neck space and keeps you toasty.
Long or short, thin or thicker, it is easy to customize to your own preferences. Make one and I am sure you will want more in other colours.

Sweet Heart Motif

I am using this Sweet Heart motif as a face scrubbie which I am including in a Valentine’s Card to my grandchildren.  They are of the age that they like to get mail and aren’t much for washing their faces.  I hope that the mail excites them, and the scrubbies inspire them to spend a little more time on personal hygiene…and the monetary gift inside the card provides encouragement…aka, bribe!

These hearts are a very quick make and can be used as I am doing for scrubbies, or for home décor for the Valentine’s season.  For 3 different sizes of hearts, stop after each round.

Because I am using my Sweet Hearts as scrubbies, I have used #4 cotton with a smaller crochet hook (4mm) so the stitches are closer together.  Adjust your hook size to your yarn weight and your intended use.  The thicker the yarn and bigger the hook, the larger the heart will be.
